This is the base model you can request at extra cost the wood vineer color/type, and color of filament these are 3D printed with. These take one month on one machine to make, we take orders per pair and the expected shipment is to be determined at the time of ordering. The minimum time for these orders to be filled is one month. They are one of a kind product that is patent pending. Please email when making the order for an expected fulfillment date. Payment is up front, and nonrefundable under most circumstances. Of course you can use the website contact form to ask and inquire as to this product and how long it would take if ordered.

How they work.

The louvers take the exponential horns directional sound wave and boadens it out to make it more hemispherical in shape. At first the sound wave is very directional on axis and not so much off axis. The frequency response of a driver in this horn, is sloped up to its cut off of 22k Hz, and slopes off steeply going higher. It will have a different response slope with different drivers. It’s lower cut off is 1k Hz. As you move the louvers over the horns mouth the labyrinth created by the louvers creates a longer path for the sound at the edges of the horn on the horizontal axis. This longer path they directs more sound off to the side as compared to the on axis, fattening the wave front. With the tips of each louver bank just meeting in the middle of the horn you end up with a near hemisherical sound wave. This will give you nice off axis images and a larger sweet spot. As you cross over the louvers more sound begins to go off to the sides more and more rather than in front of the horn on axis.

Why a horn lens, why adjustable, why not a Tractrix horn that has a near hemispherical sound wave already?

Well each room is different and each baffle is different, and we sell DIY products, so you can dial in the horn for your room and baffle. Likewise within a degree these horn/louver combination helps make more drivers work in the same horn. Usually there is one horn that is ideal for each driver, this gives a degree of flexibility. Also as you cover the horn with the louvers this also adjusts the EQ acoustically, taking the horn driver combination which slopes upward to the cut off to become leveled out as the top come down and the bottom comes up of the driver. This in combination with an Lpad will give you not only how much treble you want compared to the other drivers, but also what kind of slope. This makes this horn in combination with the driver designed for it, the LDA1002 very flexible to work in almost any application. This adjustable louver is the first of its kind as far as we know, others have had the idea, but so far none have worked to the point of becoming a product.
